Australia Theme Day Menu and Bush Tucker Trial: Thursday 26th January
Don’t forget that there will be an Australian inspired Olympic Theme Day menu at school on Thursday 26th January. This menu will replace the usual choices for that day. Please scroll down to the Olympic theme day menu link in an earlier post to view the menu. This Theme day coincides with Australia Day, and pupils are encouraged to bring in sun or Bush Tucker hats to wear during the lunch hour.
Key Stage 2 classes will be visited by Chris and Graham from Abm during the morning sessions. Pupils will be encouraged to take part in a Bush Tucker Trial – complete with blindfolds and a surprise selection of unusual food samples! We hope that you enjoy it!

Spring Term Menu
Happy new year to you all! Hope you had a good break over Christmas and welcome back to the Spring term, and more delicious and freshly prepared meals from Pam and her team in the kitchen. Here is the new menu for this term from abm – please click on the link below to view it. Hard copies were sent home with pupils during the last week of the Autumn term and there are also some spare copies available in the foyer at school. You will see that there are some tried and tested favourites, such as Lasagne, Shepherds Pie and the popular Wednesday roasts, as well as some tasty new additions such as Minced beef hotpot and Cheese & leek croquettes. Fish fingers and salmon fishcakes are also available on most Fridays this term. We hope that the pupils will continue to enjoy the variety of dishes on offer at Sherston, and do let us know what you think of the new menu by posting your comments here on the blog.
Abm have planned a variety of lunchtime events this term, such as a Bush Tucker Trial for Key Stage 2 pupils on Australia Day as well as more What’s cooking in the Wok and Olympic theme day meals. Watch this space for more details!

Changes to the catering team – goodbye Liz, hello Roger!
We have said goodbye to Liz Furness this month who has been helping out in the kitchen this year. Thank you for all your hard work Liz! We are pleased to welcome Roger to the catering team. Roger has taken over from Liz and has lots of experience in the kitchen, in particular he ran his own bakery for many years with Pam. We are looking forward to sampling his wonderful home-baked bread!

Design a Lunch Competition Winners
We’re delighted to announce that Milly Harvey (Chestnut Class) and Olivia Ascough (Ash Class) were chosen by Abm as the winners of their recent Design a Menu competition. Milly’s tasty Meatball and Pasta main course (M) followed by Olivia’s Chocolate Fudge Cake and Ice Cream will be available to everyone to sample on Thursday 8th December, and will replace the usual choices for that day. The vegetarian option will be Jacket Potato with Beans and Cheese (V). Details of the menu are available on the noticeboard at school and will be posted on the School Dinners Blog next week.
Olivia and Milly will be invited in to the kitchen to help Pam prepare the dishes for that day. Well done to Milly and Olivia and thank you to the other pupils who entered the competition.

Christmas Lunch – Thursday 15th December
This year the Christmas Lunch will be on Thursday 15th December. The menu choices have been sent home in book bags today. Please complete the tear off slip, indicating your child’s choices for the meal, and return the slip along with payment (£2.20 per meal) to the school by Monday 5th December. Abm are offering a festive choice of Turkey with all the trimmings or Quorn fillet with vegetables and roasties, followed by Christmas Pud or Jelly & Ice Cream.
Staff and pupils always enjoy the christmas lunch, and there will be crackers and christmas hats as well as some festive music in the dining hall at lunchtime. We hope that you all enjoy it again this year!

Olympics Theme Day – India on 6th December
The next theme day menu is planned for Tuesday 6th December. As usual, the special menu will replace the usual Main and Vegetarian choices for that day, though the Jacket Potato option will still be available. Abm will be offering Chicken Bhuna Curry (M) or Red Pepper Dahl (V) served with Pilau Rice or Garlic & Coriander Naan Bread, followed by Coconut Ice Cream, Fresh fruit or Yoghurt. Pupils who experience the theme day menu will be given an Indian flag sticker to add to the other flags in their theme day sticker charts. There are 12 to be collected every month throughout this school year and pupils who complete their sticker charts will be entered into a free prize draw at the end of the year.

Abm Smoothie Day at Sherston School
Abm’s nutritionist, Danielle Bretherton spent the day visiting the classes at Sherston School on Tuesday 22nd November. Danielle talked to the children about the importance of healthy eating & exercise and prepared some of her delicious fruit smoothies for the pupils to enjoy. We hope that your children enjoyed their sessions with Danielle. Further smoothie sessions are planned for next year. Watch this space!
